What Constitutes a Term Life Insurance?

You understand the importance of having a life insurance policy to your name in order to protect your loved ones when something ill happens to you. But we also know that life insurance premiums can be so dear and could use up a huge chunk of your monthly salary for period of time. If you are in this predicament, then your most viable option is to get a term life insurance.

A term life insurance policy can provide you with coverage for a specific period of time. Depending on the plan that you signed up form, you can be covered for a year or for 20 years. While you are covered, the beneficiaries that you named on your policy are entitled to receive death benefits that are specified on the policy. Term life insurance premiums are much lower because the insurance company wants to take the risk that you will not die during the period covered. But of course, after the duration of the “term” you are no longer covered, unlike other kinds of policies. Additionally, if you fail to pay a single premium until the grace period, the policy will be cancelled and all your other payments will also be cancelled in favor of the company.

You have to understand that the day after your policy expires, you are no longer covered. So that means, God forbid, if something happens to you, then your family gets nothing. The best thing to do is to renew your policy before it expires. However, you might experience a rate increase because by the time you renew your policy, you are already older and we all know that age is a big factor in determining our insurance premiums.

A term life insurance is one of your options when you are shopping for a policy. If you are not comfortable with the terms of this kind of insurance, you may opt for permanent policies like the whole life and universal life insurance. Their premiums are higher than the term but at least, they do not go away after a certain period of time. Just ask your agent for an affordable package. Tell him your monthly or annual budget for a life insurance and they will surely have one for you.
