Car Accident and Impalement in Colorado
A couple from Colorado got involved in a car accident when high winds hit the Northern Rockies in Boulder, Colorado on New Year’s Eve. It is not sure whether they had car insurance but the saddest part was that the husband died not because of a car wreck–he died of impalement.
James Baker-Jarvis, 61, was killed when a three-foot-long tree branch flew through the windshield and went right into his chest. But despite that, his wife said that he was still able to steer the car to safety so that his wife would not get hurt.
Baker-Jarvis drove a Subaru Outback and he steered it over to the roadside before losing consciousness. He died in the hospital.
The strong winds in the Northern Rockies, did not only cause the fatal accident but also the shutdowns of highways and power outages.
In this case, it was not bad driving but just bad timing that the elderly couple were on the road when the strong winds blew. Now, as 2012 is ushered in, Mrs. Baker-Jarvis was left a widow.
Our condolences to the family.

11 Japan Sports Cars Smashed in Freeway Accident

11 Sports Cars in Japan were badly damaged after a freeway accident. AP Photo.
From afar, you might think that the freeway in Shimonoseki, Japan was strewn with bright red Christmas decorations. But looking closely, it was revealed that the eleven luxury vehicles that include eight Red Ferraris, two Mercedez Benz, and a Lamborghini met a vehicular accident. It is indeed a sad day for the owners as well as the sports car insurance companies covering these expensive luxury vehicles that amount to more than $1 million altogether.
The police investigation revealed that the fleet of cars was owned by sports car enthusiasts in Japan who were out for a drive. However, one Ferrari driver decided to change lanes, hit the median barrier, and went out of control.
Because of the speed, the red Ferrari spun uncontrollably on the freeway, hitting the other ten cars on its way.
Thankfully, no one died in the accident. But ten of them were just treated for minor cuts and bruises. And all their cars are total wrecks.
It was not yet revealed how much the sports car insurance companies will be paying these owners. But it is sure going to be a hefty sum for each owner. After all, you never drive a luxury vehicle without insurance. But I do wonder if they have caravan insurance. That is a separate thing.

Top 5 of the 2011 Celebrity DUI Lessons
We put celebrities on a pedestal but they are as human as we are. They get entangled with the law with their driving and get charged with steep auto insurance because of their habits.
Despite the statistics, celebrities continue to get caught DUI. Here is the list for the first half of the year.
1. Estella Warren. She was pulled over by the cops because of DUI. However, instead of just submitting, she got involved in a brawl with the police officers and was charged with resisting arrest and battery of a police officer. Warren was released on bail worth $100,000.
2. Rick Springfield. When he was caught, the singer’s alcohol level was just a little over the limit. The legally allowed alcohol in the bloodstream when driving should be 0.08 percent. Springfield’s was 0.10. Experts say that the 0.02 percent is just the equivalent of “licking the beer sweat off a pint glass”. So if you wanna drink, don’t drive.
3. Matthew Rutler. Rutler was driving erratically so he was pulled over. Instead of resisting arrest, he requested for a BAC test and it was found that he only had 0.06 percent alcohol in him. So technically, he was under legal limits and was released.
4. Jaime Pressly. She was in a cocktail of problems that includes a divorce when she was pulled over for DUI. She had about three times the legal limit of alcohol in her bloodstream. So here is the lesson: Do not drink too much and drive, especially if you are underweight.
5. Adam Kennedy. He is now with Seattle Mariners but he has to come back to Anaheim for court appearances after he was caught DUI.
Celebrities can hire expensive DUI attorneys to defend them. That is easy. They can pay for expensive auto insurance. That is still easy for them. But when they hurt themselves, others, and property–that cannot be paid with money. So the moral is: don’t drink and drive.
